CPSE Program Summary

Our CPSE (Committee on Preschool Education) program is funded by the New York State Department of Education, therefore provided at no cost to families.

CPSE is for children aged 3 to 5 who may have Developmental Delays or disabilities, they can receive specialized services to help them prepare for kindergarten. Psychological and Special Education evaluations are comprehensive assessments conducted to determine a student's eligibility for special education services and to identify their specific learning needs.

The evaluation process typically involves assessing various areas of development, including cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional, and adaptive skills. Professionals such as Psychologists, Special Education Teachers, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists may be involved in conducting these assessments. Based on the evaluation results, a determination is made regarding whether the child is eligible for services. If eligible, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed to outline the child's specific needs and the services they will receive to support their development and school readiness.

If your child is currently receiving Early Intervention services, your Service Coordinator can assist you as your child approaches age three; the transition process begins to determine whether the child is eligible for continued services through the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). During the transition process, your child's progress and needs are reassessed to determine if they continue to require services as they enter the preschool years. Your Service Coordinator, plays a crucial role in guiding families through this transition and informing them about eligibility for CPSE services.

If you're interested in continuing with the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) process for your child, please feel free to contact our Evaluation Coordinator for further guidance and to initiate the process. The Evaluation Coordinator can provide you with information about the evaluation procedures, the documents required, and any other necessary steps to proceed with the CPSE evaluation.

Early Intervention Program (EI)

The Early Intervention Program is funded by the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Early Intervention plays a crucial role in supporting the development of children under the age of 3 who may be at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Early intervention program provides a range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and their family. At no cost to families, it not only ensures that individuals receive the support they need to thrive but also helps in identifying potential issues early, leading to better outcomes in the long run. These services can include developmental evaluations, services, and support for parents to enhance their ability to support their child's development. By identifying and addressing developmental delays or disabilities early, children can receive the support they need to reach their full potential.

If you would like to refer your child to the program or have any questions, feel free to reach out to the EI Supervisor, who can assist you.
